Our RED Values are really important to us here at Redwood School. We believe they include the qualities we want our students to have to be successful learners and citizens, now and in the future.
To make sure our students have a good understanding of our RED Values, we have instigated our Value of the Week. Each week classes will have a strong focus on one of our RED Value qualities, with teachers explaining and teaching what it means and talking to students about how it can be demonstrated. This week's Value of the Week is Engaged - I join in. At the beginning of a new school year this attitude is especially important as learning new routines, building relationships, and engaging in new learning opportunities rely on being an active participant. We want to encourage our students to give things a go and get involved. Some of our learners try to opt out of lessons if they think they won't be successful, or if they "don't want to." By focussing on this value we communicating that the best way to learn and grow is to get involved, join in and give things a go.

This article about the importance of sleep and how it impacts learning was recently published in the Education Gazette. As we set up our classes for the beginning of the year we are talking to students about things that help them to be effective as learners; sleep is definitely one of those things.

This article was recently published in the Education Gazette, which is a publication distributed to every school and learning institution in the country. We will continue to be part of KETE this year, and hope that it will continue to grow in scope and impact on local ecosystems.
